::joblink::

Whilst researching what city I would most like to move to
and work in I have come across some invaluable links to
job hunting sites and other design resources.
If you have any suggestions please contact me.

job finding, online portfolios + freelancer resources:

creative hotlist   + my listing on creative hotlist
so far, my most profitable investment of time was to sign up here. while the online portfolio service is not free,
you are given a personalized url, and the presentation is very clean. You can list links to web sites you have
designed or to pages showing samples of your work. overall, site is very well organized and well visited by creatives.
lists of jobs, companies, headhunters, organizations + people looking for jobs. Postings are dated and usually provide a contact name.

coroflot.com my listing on coroflot
coroflot allows for posting of up to 500k's worth of images (5 file limit) in an extremely simple upload format
that literally takes 15 minutes if you already have jpg samples. They give you an personlized url to which you can direct
employers in lieu of making your own web site. Job listings were a bit slim when I visited- geared mostly towrads industrial designers,
but they provided a post-a-resumé section and job search agent email service.

aiga
whether or not you are a member, their online listings can be handy to find jobs and studios.
jobs listings featured very comprehensive studio info, including website of company and contact person.
as for job-hunting benefits if you are a member, you can post a resumé/listing. The member directory,
at least in the areas I was searching, represented more solo designers than principals or designers in group studios.
Also check out individual chapters' job banks (some have them, some don't) for cities you are interested in:
http://www.phildelphia.aiga.org or http://www.boston.aiga.org
some positions are only listed in the chapter job banks and not the national bank!

portfolios.com
yet another alternative to making your own web site. there are several options, including the free 'vinyl portfolio'
in which you can show 5 pieces of your work with your resumé, up to the 'titanium portfolio' for $449/year.
I am not sure of the ease of upload and creation as I did not sign up. No job listings to my knowledge.
Personalized url, but I wasn't that keen on the free portfolios presentation.

guru.com
guru.com's job bank focuses on most major metro areas, functioning like a recruiting service for freelancers.
they give you a nifty personality/work style test (for your use and their's) and allow you to set up email job search agent.
while it isn't just for creatives, they do devote a bit more focus to us. they also provide a time & billing section so that if
guru.com clients are a regular source of work, you can track your hours devoted to the jobs and invoice online.

mediabistro.com
media bistro also allows you to set up a sort of online portfolio (more later), at a price of $49/year, I cannot tell you about the quality of the setup. the focus of job listings is also on metro areas and it encompasses all media: tv, radio, web, journalism, print, etc. and don't miss those wacky swingin' mediasingles! just kidding....er, well your resumé is only entered here for your purposes, when you apply to jobs, that is the only time it will be seen. For AvantGuild members (those who pay the $49) you can put together this personal page which doesn't seem to have much room devoted to your work samples-images that is, but if you don't have an excess of images it might be alright for you. overall, it has the same community feel of aiga, less focused on just designers-general creatives.

flipdog
job listings, post your resume, email job search agent sends new listings to you
similar to monster.com, careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.com, but with more creative-oriented job listings.

creativedirectory
comprehensive chicago design studio listings, mostly addresses and phone numbers,
also lists some vendors. most studios did not list a web address, but I went through
the lot trying to find as many websites as possible for those not listed. Find the best of them under best of chicago.

ad club
listings of advertising/design-related events, member/studio info listings and contests (the addy award) for south central pennsylvania.
eventually they are planning on including job listings too but as a source of contacts it is fairly useful.

the us firm list
a list of links to studios that are involved in web design & development- quite a few of the studios are involved in print work as well.
while they only provide a link to the websites, that is really all you may need, along with loads of time to explore. incredibly useful and comprehensive.
there are also a variety of firm lists for other countries including the uk and canada, 140 other countries in total.
